  Pamukkale:  Is one of the most interesting places in the world, justly famous not only for the beauty of its unique geological formations but also for its historical remains. The calcium oxide-rich waters flowing down the southern slope, over the millennia, built up deposits of white travertine on the plateau thus fully justifying both the site's ancient name of Hierapolis (Holy City) & its modern one of Pamukkale (Cotton Castle).   Pamukkale Denizli Turkey  
  Bodrum:  Situated on a beautiful peninsula, Bodrum, home of the famous Greek historian Herodotus, is these days better known as a popular holiday resort with non-stop nightlife.   Fethiye:  Is steeped in history with ancient Lycian & Roman sites. The Lycian civilization left it's mark as carved rock tombs in Fethiye's cliffs. Antalya is the place where sea, sun, history & nature blend in perfect harmony. Antalya features a shoreline of 657 km with beaches, ports & ancient cities scattered throughout.     Konya:  Situated at an altitude of 1016 meters in the south central region of the vast Anatolian steppe, the city of Konya is famous far beyond the borders of Turkey. The city's renown derives from the nearby ruins of Catal Huyuk & more so, from the shrine of Rumi, the great Sufi poet. Remains of numerous ancient settlements have been discovered on the Konya plain, giving evidence that humans have long favored this region.   Konya Whirling Dervish  
    Cappadocia: Boasts one of the worlds most dramatic landscapes. The lunar-like setting has become popular for hot-air ballooning. Natural cone formations, made from volcanic eruptions smoothed over time by wind & rain known as fairy chimneys, contain caves & labyrinths. As early as the 3rd  century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution & are now the homes of locals.   Cappadocia fairy chimneys  
    Mt. Nemrut:  Was discovered in 1881, but excavation didn't start until 1953. The site was constructed by Antiochus, who believed himself to be the descendent of Apollo so, he built a statue of himself along with those of Apollo, Zeus, Tyche & Hercules flanked by a lion & an eagle. An artificial mountain peak of rock 50 mts high is piled between the two ledges of the gods & some suspect Antiochus' tomb may be underneath it.   Mt. Nemrut Kahta Turkey  
    Sumela Monastery: Situated in a very beautiful & natural setting, Sumela Monastery built in the 14th century is nestled into the side of rocks in a famous valley in Macka, 50 km's away from Trabzon. The setting is 1200 meters above the sea level. Two Greek monks, Barnaby & Sophronios started the original building. The 7th century icon apparently painted by an anonymous Trabzon artist became the symbol of the monastery.   Sumela Monastery Turkey  
    Safranbolu: Displays its extremely rich historical & cultural heritage through 1008 architectural structures displaying a good example of Turkish architecture, all preserved in their original environment. Safranbolu was placed in the world Cultural Heritage list by UNESCO in appreciation of the successful efforts in the preservation of its heritage as a whole.
